Posted: 19 Jun 2019 02:03 AM PDT Blue Man Group is a creative organization centered on a trio of mute performers that present themselves in blue paint, latex bald caps, and black clothing. Friends Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton (collectively referred to as CMP) conceived the idea during the 1980s while in New York City. They began appearing on the streets in Blue Man regalia, entertaining passersby, staging unusual events such as "The Funeral For the 80s", and short bits in Tom Murrin’s "The Alien Comic’s" underground cabarets in "The CLUB" at La MaMa Experimental Theater Club. Posted: 18 Jun 2019 09:06 PM PDT Paulina Susana Rubio (born June 17, 1971 in Mexico City) is a Mexican singer and television personality. She is the daughter of Susana Dosamantes, a Mexican actress of soap operas. Rubio’s music is popular in Latin America, Spain, United States, Europe and Asia. She began her career when she was nine years old in 1980, debuting with a music group called Timbiriche, recording ten albums with them. Rubio turned to acting in soap operas on Televisa. She landed her first role in 1988, as a villain in Pasion y poder (“Passion and Power”). In 1990 she starred in “Baila Conmigo”, and in 1994 she made her film debut in the low-budget Mexican film called “Bésame en la Boca” and in 1995 she starred in the Soap Opera “Pobre Niña Rica” (Poor Rich Girl). In 1990, Rubio left Timbiriche and focused on launching a solo career. In 1992, she released her first album titled “La chica dorada”. In 1993 she released “24 kilates”. In 1995, “El tiempo es oro”. In 1996 she released “Planeta Paulina” and in 2000, “Paulina”. This album was nominated at the second annual Latin Grammy Awards, and in 2002 “Border girl”, which included her first foray into English language-Pop. Her smash hit “Don’t Say Goodbye” rose to the number one spot on the Billboard list. Although her debut English album did not launch her into superstardom, it did give Paulina the international recognition she sought for years. In 2004, Rubio returned with a Spanish language album titled Pau-latina. Rubio explained that “Pau-latina” has several meanings, such as similarity to her name Paulina, the Catalan word pau meaning peace, and Latina. Recently songs on the album such as “Algo Tienes” and “Dame Otro Tequila” have become major hits making her one of the best selling female pop artist of México and Latin America. With Paulatina, Rubio received a “Premio Lo Nuestro”, as the Best Female of the Year and Premios Juventud, given by the audience who vote online and polls. Paulina Rubio is to this day a household name in the Spanish speaking world. In July 2006, Paulina released the first single of her album “Ananda,”(meaning “Happiness”, in Sanskrit) “Ni Una Sola Palabra.” “Nada puede cambiarme” and “Ayúdame” are also hits from the album “Ananda”, the one with Paulina Rubio affirms that she’s one of the best latin american artists. By 2009, Paulina released her ninth album named “Gran City Pop”. “Causa y efecto” was the first single of the album and both (album and single) peaked the 1st places at Billboard Magazine, iTunes, and Latin American radio charts. On 2011 Paulina released her new studio album named Brava, which first single “Me gustas tanto” is produced by Red One. Posted: 18 Jun 2019 08:56 PM PDT The Infamous Stringdusters are doing something right: earning critical acclaim, awards, and nominations aplenty; hosting their own successful music festival; forging their own record label, High Country Recordings; and quickly growing and enthusiastic fan base across the country. They sound like no one else, combining virtuosic chops on five traditional bluegrass instruments, with an ethos of pushing the genre forward. Read more about The Infamous Stringdusters on Last.fm. Oliver, a guitarist, discovered he had a knack for writing songs and formed the blues-based King Johnson, which continues to do frequent gigs on the Southern circuit. Chris, a bassist, began playing jazz and rock in New York, eventually teaming up with John Medeski and Billy Martin to form the successful jazz-funk trio Medeski, Martin & Wood. Posted: 18 Jun 2019 08:56 PM PDT It's hard to pinpoint the moment that songs are born, the day casual hummers become singers or scribblers become songwriters. Rayland Baxter certainly can't, and he wouldn't want to. Though he grew up in Nashville to the sounds of his father's pedal steel, he didn't dream of being a rock star. He loved music, of course, but he liked other things, too: being outside, playing sports, working at the bait shop to make spare change. Read more about Rayland Baxter on Last.fm. She first recorded solo for the Stax subsidiary Volt in 1969. Subsequent efforts included a Curtis Mayfield-produced soundtrack on Curtom, a nod to disco for Warner Bros. Posted: 18 Jun 2019 08:56 PM PDT If you’re familiar with bluegrass music, then you’re tuned in to some of what Greensky Bluegrass does. They’re also known to throw a great party, rock n roll, and (if the critics are to be believed) they have great songs. They are unquestionably a team of friends that traverse the country making music they enjoy. What makes Greensky different than Bluegrass? Poignant rural ballads about real people? Dobro tone that Jerry (Douglas or Garcia) would love? Distortion Pedals? Grit and attitude from a whiskey soaked card game? Indeed, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Posted: 18 Jun 2019 08:56 PM PDT This band won the contest to be the first unsigned artist to be featured on the cover of the Rolling Stone magazine. From the prairie city of Saskatoon, Canada come the Sheepdogs, 4 young gentlemen who revel in the joy of rock n roll so wholeheartedly, it’s downright contagious. Sporting the long-haired looks of their musical forefathers, the lads make the most of their 2 guitars, bass and drums combo. Read more about The Sheepdogs on Last.fm.
