Digitaltrends.com: Microsoft: “Zune is not dead”

Image
Microsoft: “Zune is not dead” Rumors of the Zune brand's demise are greatly exaggerated, according to Microsoft. And to prove it, the Zune HD is finally on sale in Canada. Years ago Microsoft was all geared up to unleash its “iPod killer” Zune media players…only to find that the only thing able to put a dent in Apple’s iPod juggernaut was Apple itself, with it’s iPhone and other iOS devices. Now, Redmond’s attention has decidedly shifted to its new Windows Phone 7 mobile platform and high-profile partnership with Nokia, leading many to speculate about the fate of Microsoft’s Zune brand. According to the Zune Insider podcast, Zune is live and well. “I guess the meta-point here, bubble-up one level, whatever analogy you want to use: Zune is not dead.” said Microsoft’s Matt Akers. “We still have jobs, right? I still like, get my paycheck.” Aside from emphasizing Zune is still alive within Microsoft—and “will never die!” according to Akers—there’s precious little information coming out...

It's high time something good to know regarding concert

Phish announces summer concert tour dates Page McConnell, Jon Fishman, Trey Anastasio and Mike Gordon of Phish, from left, attend the 25th Annual Rock And Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria on March 15, 2010, in New York. (Credit: Getty) (CBS) If you've been wondering how you can listen to the same guitar solo all summer long, wonder no more! Phish announced its summer tour with a pretty bizarre video (scroll down to watch it). In the video, a man trudges through a desert city. He haggles briefly with a shopkeeper over the price of a camel. They settle on a price and the man takes the camel into the desert, riding, riding, riding. Finally, he makes his way up a hill and collapses in front of an oasis - or maybe it's a mirage - with the words "Phish Summer Tour 2011" appearing as clouds in the sky. He passes out. Don't bother re-reading that. It doesn't make sense. Tickets are $60 for reserved seating and $45 for general admission at a...

We're all in complete shock - Windows Phone Review: So Far, So Excellent

Image
Windows Phone Review: So Far, So Excellent A couple of days ago, Android problems with my Exchange calendar at work triggered a need for a new smartphone.  After seriously considering an iPhone 4, I decided to get a Windows Phone. It's not every day you get to learn a major new phone OS, so I thought I'd share some of my novice experiences with it. The executive summary: So far (and admittedly that's not been very far yet), it's been excellent, while granting leniency for its young age. Why did I choose a Windows Phone? I've used an iPhone 3GS for quite a while, and this little HTC Aria with the Exchange 2010 calendar sync problems for about six months. I've also used a Blackberry, if using one counts back when the device actually LOOKED like its namesake blackberry. I work in an Exchange mail environment, use Office, and I'm a huge OneNote fan. It seemed like a good idea to try the new player, especially since I'd heard good early experiences about it ...

Startling music article - Gwen Stefani On the Connection Between Music and Fashion

Image
Gwen Stefani On the Connection Between Music and Fashion By Alexandra Cheney Rock star and fashion designer Gwen Stefani didn’t make it to any other fashion shows, she was so busy preparing for her own L.A.M.B. show last night, the penultimate of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Speakeasy caught up with the designer hours before to talk about the connection between her music and her fashion, her family and what’s next. The Wall Street Journal: You founded L.A.M.B in 2003. Was it an outgrowth of your music? For years people were asking me about doing something. When I started it wasn’t something that a lot of people did. Now it feels like everyone, they do a record and they do something else. I would think, “why would I do something else? I do music.” But I don’t know, it just kept coming to me. It just kind of evolved like everything in my life. I remember sitting at the table at my house in London and just saying I don’t really know what I’m doing. But what really helped it and what really...

concert once again on the front page: 'iCarly' star Miranda Cosgrove on first concert tour

'iCarly' star Miranda Cosgrove on first concert tour DETROIT — This time the school of rock is real for Miranda Cosgrove. Having enjoyed a long career in front of the camera, the 17-year-old Nickelodeon star is learning about life in front of a concert crowd. Nine months after releasing "Sparks Fly," her debut album of bubbly guitar-pop, Cosgrove has hit the road for her first tour. The month-long run will take her across the eastern seaboard before heading back to her native California. Cosgrove can expect an eager reception from young fans enamored of her show "iCarly," the high-spirited, high-rated Nick comedy that made her a household name. And you can bet that more than a few have caught her turn as Summer Hathaway in the 2003 film "School of Rock," where her precocious character helped stage a battle of the bands. En route to Kansas City for her kickoff show, Cosgrove is sweet and polite on the phone — not unlike her levelheaded "iCarly...
